KAMAS, Summit County — A Magna man was stabbed in a convenience store at the Bear River Lodge on the Mirror Lake Highway Saturday.

The incident began about 9:45 a.m. when two strangers inside the store, about 48 miles east of Kamas, physically bumped into each other.

“It was literally two people in this convenience store kind of hit into each other by accident and then an altercation took place,” said Summit County Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright. “During the course of that argument, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck.”

The victim, 62, was taken to Evanston Regional Hospital in Wyoming, where he was stabilized and later transferred by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake area hospital. The victim was in serious condition, Wright said.

Authorities said several people at the store aided the Magna man, while others physically detained the suspect until police arrived.

Charles Ryan Hendricks, 45, of Evanston, was booked into the Summit County Jail for investigation of attempted murder. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
